What we call peace, our ability to live together, comes from our ability to push others away. We can't just constantly murder people. We can't just constantly have sacrificial victims, so, eventually these ideas need to be ritualized. This is what religion is.

Paul has said that we are all guilty. In that, he says that God may have mercy on us all. Sometimes we have questions about scriptures. Mary pondered those things in her heart. I just say that God has them in the crock pot cooking and when he is finished then we'll have the answer. He is not withholding anything, but he is preparing our hearts to receive.

God in Christ has reconciled all unto himself. God in Christ has now chosen all. There is no more "Us and Them". He has included us all into His story.

The peace we know has come through the mechanism of the scapegoat and violence. All we have ever know is peace through the edge of the sword. Paul speaks of a peace that passes understanding. When the scapegoat loses its ability to bring peace, tribulation is what follows.

Satan cast out Satan. When the community identifies their adversary. When the community scapegoats that adversary. When the community directs their violence against that adversary and that adversary is driven out. In that, the power of Satan is affirmed over the community again. Peace returns because that's what it looks like when violence is used for social cohesion. But the truth is, we have actually given ourselves over to the violence of the scapegoat mechanism.
