Our salvation starts with realizing that we don't need an enemy (scapegoat) to know ourselves as loved. When we stop seeing the people around us as the "other" the "goats" the "them", as people to be afraid of. Jesus asks, "Why are you so afraid?"

This man is naked, he is bleeding, and he is living in a graveyard, and this is the man that meets Jesus when he steps of the boat on the other side. No wonder the Jewish people didn't cross the lake very often, this was the welcoming party. Jesus has crossed over to the other side, to the region of the "cast out ones".
